Why Do I Have White Spots on My Teeth?

Are you troubled by that white spot on your front teeth?

Many of us have annoying chalky white spots on our teeth and they stand out giving a very unsightly appearance. These white spots could be due to many reasons which are enlisted below.

The good news is that they can be taken care of by your dental surgeon. Read on to find your way to that perfect smile!

Why do white spots occur on teeth?

• Improper Oral Hygiene

Not maintaining a good oral hygiene and allowing a buildup of bacterial plaque causes demineralization of teeth and formation of these bright white spots. These are especially common in children and young adults.

Post braces treatment these spots seem to appear as braces affects the oral hygiene of the individual leading to plaque deposition and hence demineralization of tooth structure.

• Fluorosis

Fluoride is a mineral which when consumed in the proper concentration is very beneficial to teeth making them stronger and resistant to dental decay.

Fluoride can even reverse tiny cavities that are starting to form. However, when ingested by children in large amounts, it can do more harm than good. Dental fluorosis occurs when the child is exposed to excessive systemic fluoride during the first six years of life.
